Energy Transition Hydrogen / Ammonia

Hydrogen / Ammonia
PCP collaborate with clients who lead the way in enabling the Hydrogen Economy. We help them to connect the dots between conceptual and novel technologies with more conventional transmission concepts.
Hydrogen
Our databases include Steam Methane Reforming (SMR) and Electrolytic Hydrogen production. SMR technology is the main source of Hydrogen today and when combined with Carbon Capture technology this produces low-emission "Blue" Hydrogen. Electrolytic Hydrogen production, when powered by renewable resources provides "Green" Hydrogen.
Hydrogen Storage & Transportation
Under atmospheric conditions Hydrogen is a low density gas, which poses challenges for cost-effective storage and transmission. Storage of Hydrogen currently is either at high pressure using heavy walled pressure vessels, or liquified and stored cryogenically.
Ammonia
Meeting the challenges of Hydrogen transportation and storage requires some alternative approaches. Conversion of Hydrogen to ammonia is one approach which we are supporting our clients to develop - this allows transportation and storage of a high-density hydrogen-rich liquid for optimum efficiency. PCP have supported clients investigating the viability of ammonia transportation, including Ammonia production, Ship loading/unloading, Pipelines, and conversion back to hydrogen for use.
Blue/Green Fertilizers
Ammonia is a key component in fertilizer manufacture - Historically, this has been produced using Steam Methane Reforming (SMR). PCP have worked with clients transitioning their fertilizer production facilities to use Green and Blue Hydrogen as a process feed in place of Natural Gas.
Renewable Energy Utilisation
Electrical power from renewable generation is often over-supplied either at times when not needed, or in remote locations with litte demand. Our clients are investing in utilization of surplus power from renewable sources, and PCP are providing estimating support to their engineering studies to determine project economics.
PCP are supporting development of the HyNet NW Hydrogen Pipeline Network in the UK to provide Cadent with CAPEX check estimates for Hydrogen Pipeline construction.
We collaborated with DNV to provide GALP with a Class III Estimate for a 100MW Green Hydrogen Production Facility including ISBL, OSBL and Support Infrastructure.
We prepared CAPEX estimates for complete Hydrogen/Ammonia Supply Chain from Australia to Japan, including Green Hydrogen Generation, an Ammonia Synthesis Plant converting green hydrogen to Ammonia, Ammonia Storage and Marine Loading, Ammonia Transportation Vessels, Ammonia Unloading and Cracking back to Hydrogen.
